چکیده

The technological advancement in drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), wind turbines, and airfoil research has grown rapidly since last decade. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis is commonly used to study the airflow around a body. Yet, tunnel an essential instrument aerodynamic research; however, commercial normally comes with small test section incurs high investment costs. This paper presents development of low-cost subsonic open-loop for education purposes. suction-type intentionally designed large 1 m2 modular form where each can be rectified according application different parameter studies. detailed design steps, fabrication method, build are described, along flow that been conducted. Furthermore, 3D CFD simulation performed simulate condition good agreement between measurement observed. potential root cause discrepancy comparisons other tunnels discussed. From preliminary test, velocity turbulence intensity (TI) obtained from 5.16 m/s 3.14 % respectively. TI less than < 5%, which considered medium case small-scale specimens like micro turbines UAVs.

Design Construction and Performance Test of a Low Cost Subsonic Wind Tunnel

– Wind tunnel is a device, by artificially producing airflow relative to a stationary body that measures aerodynamic force and pressure distribution to simulate with actual conditions. Wind Tunnels offer a rapid, economical, and accurate means for aerodynamic research. The most important aspect of wind tunnels is their ability to accurate recreate the full complexity of full fluid flow. In the ...

A Low Cost Numerical Simulation of a Supersonic Wind-tunnel Design

In the present paper, a supersonic wind-tunnel is designed to maintain a flow with Mach number of 3 in a 30cm×30cm test section. An in-house CFD code is developed using the Roe scheme to simulate flow-field and detect location of normal shock in the supersonic wind-tunnel. In the Roe scheme, flow conditions at inner and outer sides of cell faces are determined using an upwind biased algorithm. ...

Design Considerations for a UCAV Wing for Subsonic and Transonic Aeroelastic and Flight Mechanic Wind Tunnel Tests

In the German Aerospace Center, DLR, an internal project has been launched to investigate different UCAV configurations. One aspect, covered by the Institute of Aeroelasticity and the Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology, is the wind tunnel test of a UCAV wing in subsonic and transonic flow. The model shall show measurable static aeroelastic deformations. Main goals of the tests will b...

Wall Interference and Boundary Simulation in a Transonic Wind Tunnel With a Discretely Slotted Test Section

A computational simulation of a transonic wind tunnel test section with longitudinally slotted walls is developed and described herein. The nonlinear slot model includes dynamic pressure e ects and a plenum pressure constraint, and each slot is treated individually. The solution is performed using a nite-di erence method that solves an extended transonic small disturbance equation. The walls se...

Design and simulation of flow through subsonic axial compressor

Abstract―This paper illustrates the theory behind computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of flow though a gas turbine engine low pressure compressor. The goal of study is to develop a tool to perform shape optimization of low speed airfoils. Mathematical model and computational tool are developed using programming software. Analytical solution is developed to create airfoil geometry. The NACA 4 dig...
